Equine Rescue

Rescue is likely one of the most well known types of horse nonprofit organizations, or at least the kind the many understand the best.  Rescue organizations step in to save neglected, abused and starving horses to rehabilitate them and adopt them out into forever homes.

These horses come from a variety of places; sometimes they must be seized by Animal Control, sometimes owners will relinquish them, and sometimes they are found abandoned.  Each organization has a different method for rehabilitation and each has a different system for adopting them out.

While standards vary, best practices are thought to be organizations that take responsibility for and maintain ownership of horses for the remainder of their lives.  This is the best way to protect horses from ever ending up in the situation that landed them in a rescue.
